Page 2 of 2 Those of you who used to receive the Intellivision Newsletter should have received an “Intellivision Update” last weekend. (If not, please check your Spam folder and add us to your address book.)
If you want to sign up for the Updates, here's the form:
But, many of you have asked, Whatever happened to the Intellivision Newsletters? Here's the scoop...
We were using a service called bCentral from Microsoft to send out our newsletters. Then, early last year, Bill Gates pulled the plug. No more bCentral, no more newsletters.
At first I thought that wouldn’t be too much of a problem; we had started a MySpace page where we announced news and posted a blog about Intellivision. Everyone who subscribed to the newsletter would become our MySpace friend and receive the bulletins.
Well, it didn’t happen. We had about 10,000 subscribers to the newsletter. We only have 1500 MySpace friends.
So last month we picked a new service – Sparklit – and I started working on the first fresh newsletter in over a year.
That’s when our Marketing guru, Josh, told me, “No.” He argued that the newsletters were too long and wordy. In a world of Twitter, he said we had to be brief – the briefer the better. He suggested instead a weekly update with just the latest headlines from the web site.
So, that’s what you should have received. If you miss the regular features of the newsletters – Intellivision Sightings, Stories from the Files of the Blue Sky Rangers, the Trivia Contests – don’t be mad. We’ll be incorporating them occasionally into the news and blogs on the web site.
If you’re still mad, blame Josh. That’s what I always do.

Written by Rick Luce on 2008-05-17 18:40:13 Yeah, I miss the old-style "long and wordy" newsletters. Then again, I'm a dinosaur who doesn't have a MySpace account, so I'm one of the 8,500 subscribers who didn't make that switch. Bring back the old newsletters, please! (And tell Josh he's been demoted from "marketing guru" to "marketing newbie"--he'll hate that...) |
